This year keeps on getting better for Bristol post-punk heroes IDLES as they’ve been shortlisted for the 2019 Hyundai Mercury Prize, for their critically acclaimed second album Joy As An Act Of Resistance.
IDLES join the likes of The 1975, slowthai, Foals, Fontaines D.C and NAO who have also been shortlisted for the top prize with their respective albums.
The ceremony takes place on 19th September at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.
This year’s shortlisted albums was voted by a judging panel which featured Stormzy, Jorja Smith and Gaz Coombes.
On this year’s shortlist, the judges said:
“This year’s Hyundai Mercury Prize celebrates both the striking diversity of British and Irish music-makers and their shared purpose in exploring issues of identity and belonging at a time of division and disagreement. And all this is done with music of passion, wit, insight, ambition and heart-stirring optimism!”
Best of luck to the artists! Check out the full list of nominees here and IDLES latest video for album track ‘Never Fight A Man With A Perm’.
