Having wrapped up her UK tour with fellow Bristol artist SLONK, singer-songwriter Kate Stapley has shared a new song, ‘Iceland’ from her forthcoming EP Centella.
We’ve had the pleasure of seeing Kate live earlier this year (read our review of her show at The Louisiana), witnessing her captivating voice and emotionally attached songwriting that grows on you over time. Latest single ‘Iceland’ echoes this and more; compelling vocals so sweet but heartfelt as the song tells of coming out of difficult period and finding the light in life again thanks to good companions. Kate simply shines through in this lovely solo piece.
Explaining about her songwriting and musical roots on her EP Centella, Kate, said:
I have been playing around the UK for 8 years now in various incarnations, but now a long love for the art of songwriting has led me back to my musical roots on this record.
It focuses on themes of family (some of the songs are about my nan’s dementia) and finding your feet in the world from a pragmatic and optimistic standpoint [….] I wanted to make something that was warm and beautiful; something to act as a form of escapism in an increasingly troubled modern world.
Looking forward into 2018, Kate will be releasing her new EP Centella via Breakfast Records in February.
More details on the release to come soon, but in the meantime enjoy the beautifully crafted ‘Iceland’.
