We couldn’t be more excited to work with Saffron Records on celebrating their 2nd birthday next Thursday at Mr Wolf’s – with special guest performances from Brighton alt-pop four-piece Kudu Blue, label artist China Bowls and their Mix Night DJs keeping us partying throughout the evening.
The Bristol label over the course has establish a strong community in supporting young women to work in the music industry through artist development programmes and positive role models in networking and connecting with one another. It’s been incredible time for Saffron Records with many successes and breakthroughs along the way.
Ahead of birthday proceedings next week, Saffron Records creative director Laura Lewis-Paul shares with us their top 5 highlights over the last two years.
1. Signing China Bowls
Releasing our first artist China Bowls on the label was a massive deal for us. It’s been a real journey, we are learning everyday about how the industry works and how to connect the pieces. The importance of relationship building between us and the artists is so important and working with China Bowls has been an incredible experience.
2. Working with Bristol Women in Music
Teaming up with Bristol Women in Music has been pretty awesome. They are like a team of big sisters that Saffron Records can ask questions and get support from all angles of the industry, but most importantly we work together to put on Mix Nights for Women that want to learn to DJ. If you want to sign up, visit the site.
3. PRSF’s Talent Development Partners
Becoming one of the PRSF’s Talent Development Partners has enabled us to up our game in terms of how we develop our artists. Again we are working closely with industry experts such as Giles Peterson’s talent development program – Future Bubblers and Urban Development who can give us sound advise and to connect us as a young company.
4. Partnership with Red Bull Music
We are super excited about our partnership with Red Bull Music. They have been flat out running their monthly music tech workshops – Normal Not Novelty in the Red Bull Studios for women across the city. We are working with them on their NNN tour as our Saffron For Sound courses can be a natural progression for young women who sign up to the workshops.
5. Celebrating our 2nd birthday!
Lastly our 2nd birthday! This means Saffron Records is about to reach it’s terrible twos! Watch out! It will be a massive celebration including talented emerging artists, our Mix Nights DJ’s bringing you their eclectic and individual sounds + cake, lots of lush birthday cake!! Super stoked to be working with Tap The Feed on this event. Would love to see some friendly faces.
