Former Reuben frontman and accomplished solo artist Jamie Lenman is something of a Jekyll and Hyde of British music. His first solo album Muscle Memory was an album of two parts – the first being an abrasive buckshot of pure punk rock and the latter a largely relaxed, acoustic affair. Upon the first listen to Lenman’s debut as a solo artist, you would be forgiven for thinking this was two entirely different artists’ work. New single ‘Waterloo Teeth’ is somewhere in between these two distinct styles, and it is great to hear Lenman’s unique delivery on record once more.
His duality and contrasting musical attack is one that makes Jamie Lenman’s live performance an interesting prospect. Add that to the outside chance of hearing Reuben’s music live again and the band’s performance at Thekla this Saturday is surely one not to be missed.
