It’s the return of The Feed and our first roundup of the year (whoop whoop!). Every Monday we’ll be bringing you some of the best and favourite new releases of the past week.
So what releases shined during the first week of January?
Dream Wife – Hey Heartbreaker
With their debut self-titled album coming out at the end of the month, punk rock trio Dream Wife have shared a revamped version of their single ‘Hey Heartbreaker’. Originally featured in EP1, the song has been polished for the upcoming LP but keeps all the grit, grunge and power from its first release – plus it comes with a cool animated video.
MGMT – Hand It Over
Another preview of MGMT’s forthcoming album Little Dark Age later this year. The duo take things at a calmer pace; smooth synths and electronics trickling throughout as gentle soul-like vocals come into play.
Poisonous Birds – Big Water
Alt-rock duo Poisonous Birds are kicking off their campaign with new EP Big Water via Be Softly and have shared the title track as a fine teaser of what’s to come. Frontman Tom Ridley’s poetic lyrics march forward as tense sculptural electronics and post-rock sensibilities edge the band’s sound into newer territory – creating music that’s more bigger and precise.
zoller – “Étude des Boucles et du Bruit”
Continuing with newer sounds, this experimental track from Bristol based artist zoller is quite something. The song is as interesting as it’s title – dark electronic prods which slowly shift and creep upon you as the minutes go by. A piece that’ll leave you stunned and wanting more.
Rae Morris – Push Me To My Limit
Following standout singles ‘Atletico’ and ‘Do It’, singer Rae Morris has shared new song ‘Push Me To My Limit’ the opener to her album Someone Out There out next month via Atlantic Records. More a vocal-led piece with lighter pop chimes that teases on what’s to come.
Sea Girls – Heavenly War
Some dancing indie pop to fire you up this January, why not! Londoners Sea Girls have shared new single ‘Heavenly War’ as they prepare for their UK headline tour, stopping by Bristol’s Exchange on 2nd February. A solid piece to start off 2018.
LEECHES – Stranger
A fresh one just released and an absolute stonker from Bournemouth’s fuzz rockers LEECHES. ‘Stranger’ is from their forthcoming EP Watusi out this Friday via Leisure Records and one that tears shit up with rapturing riffs, thrilling drums and all the pop/grunge hooks you could ever want.
