Since their inception a few years ago, Waldo’s Gift have been carving a name for themselves in the ever-growing jazz scene. With several festival appearances under their belt and an album which can be best described as a spectral belt of sonic sounds, Waldo’s Gift have been making waves and aren’t about to stop.
The stunning video for ‘Kaleidoscope’ from their Improvisations album has recently been released and stands as a true visualisation of their improvised brew. It just goes to show that you can actually dance to twisted time signatures.
Speaking on the video:
“We love improvising. Each live show is a totally unique experience. We strive for true connection to the moment through unadulterated expression. With the album we wanted to push that concept as far as we could, honestly capturing the whole process.”
“We took that process even further with the ‘Kaleidoscope’ video. We knew from the start we wanted improvised dance in the video. We captured only a few takes of Saskia Horton (jazz violinist and dancer) expressing herself while hearing the music for the first time.”
“What you’re seeing in the video is pure un-choreographed improvised dance. A joy and challenge to film. Holysseus Fly painted 300 frames in the expressive style of the album art that were lovingly animated by our live show VJ Fred Iles.”
Check out the video for ‘Kaleidoscope’, you can find Waldo’s Gift lurking at their local haunt, The Gallimaufry, every Wednesday.
