Struggling to shake off the January blues? Un-inspired about the working week ahead? Well, we’ve got the tunes to help you through it!
Kicking off the week perfectly, Hayley Williams momentarily steps away from Paramore and releases a tease of her upcoming debut solo album PETALS FOR ARMOR. ‘Simmer’ feels stripped back and true to self as Williams sings about repressed rage, her vocals as seamless as ever. Album to follow in May, and we can’t wait! Happyness release ‘Vegetable’, a single reminiscent of the 90’s with grunge tones and accompanied by a trippy music video. Plus, Sorry release industrial laced single ‘More’ which oozes unapologetic attitude (ironic) and lyrics which paint a strikingly vivid image.
Next, Waxahatchee, aka Katie Crutchfield, announces her exciting new album Saint Cloud, alongside the release of single ‘Fire’, a song in which she addresses self-love and accepting past mistakes. Lala Lala’s newest track ‘Legs, Run’ produces lovely dynamics as it builds from a glimmering soundscape, to familiar, punching heights, while the video pays homage to The Truman Show. South-London boys Margot discuss the important topic of toxic masculinity in their new dream-pop single ‘MAN LOVE’. The deep theme is pleasantly contrasted by their hazy, floating flavour which carries hints of Real Estate.
Finally, ‘Do You Wanna’ arrives as Porches’ first release of the year, the tender single self-analysing and questioning who we truly are and how we see ourselves. The song’s mood lifts and swoops consistently throughout, creating a catchy and all-consuming cycle.
